Surah Ash Shura Ayat 227 Tafseer

Para 19 - وَ قَالَ الَّذِیْنَ

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

26.227

اِلَّا الَّذِیْنَ اٰمَنُوْا وَ عَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ وَ ذَكَرُوا اللّٰهَ كَثِیْرًا وَّ انْتَصَرُوْا مِنْۢ بَعْدِ مَا ظُلِمُوْاؕ-وَ سَیَعْلَمُ الَّذِیْنَ ظَلَمُوْۤا اَیَّ مُنْقَلَبٍ یَّنْقَلِبُوْنَ۠ (227)

English translation of Kanz-ul-Imaan

Except those (poets) who believed and did good deeds, and abundantly remembered Allah (in their poetry), and took revenge (from the disbelievers by refuting them in their poetry) after they had been wronged; and (after death) the unjust will soon come to know that (as to) which side they will turn.

Commentary

Muslim poets were excluded from this verse because their poetry did not contain condemnable matters like that of the disbelievers. Rather, Muslims would mention the glorification of Allah Almighty, praise of the Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم, admiration for Islam, counsel, and responses to the wickedness of the disbelievers. Remember that poetry is not intrinsically evil, for it is a form of speech; if it is good, then it is simply likened to good speech, and if the words express evil, then it is likened to immoral speech. Just as it is stated in the hadith, “Poetry is speech; good poetry is like good speech, and evil poetry is like evil speech.” (Al-Sunan Al-Kubrā: 9181)
